Questions & answers
Good to know.
Before you go.
The practical details about Mates Rates Check, comparing booking totals and getting your direct site connected.
Is booking direct always cheaper?
Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn’t. Mates highlights the lower of the two totals you compare. Check the same dates, guest count, currency, fees and cancellation terms before choosing.
Does Mates work with every Airbnb stay?
Mates shows a direct option when it has a connection for that property. Coverage varies by destination and property. If there’s no connection, you can keep browsing or try “See more nearby”.
How do I open the calculator?
First open a direct booking option through Mates on Airbnb. On the direct site, click your pinned Mates icon, choose “Pick this total”, and click the final total for the whole stay. Mates then compares it with the Airbnb total.
Can I use Mates on my phone?
The extension currently works in desktop Chrome. You can explore this website on a phone, but you’ll need a computer to install and use Mates Rates Check.
Does Mates handle my booking or payment?
You book with the website you choose. That provider handles payment, confirmation, cancellations and support for the booking. Mates helps you compare your options before you decide.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
Mates Rates Check is free to install and use. Travellers do not need a Mates account to use the extension.
What does “See more nearby” show?
It suggests other stays with connected direct sites around your search area. Open a suggestion on Airbnb and check its details before comparing. Nearby suggestions do not confirm availability, prices or every search filter.
Are dates and guests carried over?
Mates carries them over where the booking link supports it. Always check them on the direct site before selecting a total, and recheck both prices if you change your plans.
What information does the extension use?
Mates uses listing and search information to find connected properties, plus the booking total you select for a comparison. Limited comparison and link-click records are sent to Mates. Read the privacy policy for the details.
How can a host add a direct booking site?
Hosts and property managers can submit their website and an Airbnb host profile for review. Submitting a site does not guarantee that its properties will be added.
